Kaira Kafo is a West African Drum and Dance company set up in 2015 by Alex and Kumba Orme.
Over the last 10 years we have been delivering workshops, performances and lessons in Surrey and throughout the UK.
Our primary mission has been to share the joy of traditional West African music with everyone here in the UK and to encourage people to explore it further.
Alex Orme has been a drummer for over 25 years and has spent almost as long studying and learning these traditions.
From a very young age Kumba Orme has been a dancer and performer in The Gambia.
Throughout this time we have committed ourselves to learning the traditional music and dance from the source in West Africa and giving it the respect and dedication it deserves. Through our teachers, travels and learning we have come to learn how important and vital these musical traditions are and how beneficial they can be to everyone.
These rhythms and movements are a centuries old ancient technology of joy that is living, breathing and evolving through time and that has been eternally beating its way through human history to the present where it resonates ever more strongly with all people across the planet. Djembe drumming and dancing is one of the most accessible and inclusive forms of music and that is why we have focused our teaching primarily with this aspect of the music. The music of West Africa is vast and the djembe is an ideal starting point with which to explore the many forms and compositions both traditional and modern.
All performers at Kaira Kafo have had an enhanced DBS check.
Public Liability Insurance up to 2 million.
